#DomaniInArte - contest fotografico
01/05 - 30/06/2020
Galleria d'Arte Moderna

Up to 30 June 2020: artists are requested to submit a photograph of one of their works that represents themselves – and ourselves – at this time of grave global concern.

Within the ambit of the #laculturaincasa project, the Assessorato alla Crescita culturale (municipal cultural affairs office) and the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali (Rome cultural heritage superintendence), together with Zètema Progetto Cultura S.r.l., have organised the contest named #DomaniInArte, which shall be operational up to 30 June 2020: artists are requested to submit a photograph of one of their works that represents themselves – and ourselves – at this time of grave global concern. However, the image in question should also bear a message of hope with an eye on the future, taking into account the viewpoints of artists, therefore, from a “alternative” angle, vis-à-vis the dramatic situation we are faced with today. The work in question should transcend the silence that reigns supreme in our closed galleries and the silence of art projects placed on hold.
We aim to create an artists’ atelier hosting an abundance of voices and languages of the world of art, whether adopting the more traditional or more experimental techniques, also including writing (e.g. visual poetry, urban poetry, poetry-concept, etc.) and sound design.
To foster participation and involvement, entering the contest is free of charge and open to all artists who are of age (adults), with their contributions in the form of their own proposals on the poetic and aesthetic planes.
This is also an opportunity for enabling expression of the art of Italy, according to an approach, for example, that seeks to “sustain” Italy, as exemplified by the work of key international artists:  Ai Weiweim who displays long, distressing lists of obituary notices from the journal, ”Eco di Bergamo”; or Zehra Dogan, who photographs Kurds who support Italy; or the video-messages by Jenny Holzer with their brief poetic sentences regarding the will to live and to cultivate a future; or the burning red candle as filmed by Shirin Neshat; and the archive of urban sounds of global cities at a time of lockdown: Cities and Memory.
All the works submitted shall be placed online on the social media channels of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma Capitale (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) . When the gallery reopens, they shall be reproduced on a monitor in the gallery’s video room/library (July-September 2020). The photographs shall then be stored in the digital archives of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna and can then be viewed on request.

To take part, you must send an e-mail specifying “participation in  #DomaniInArte” contest”, in the header, to social@museiincomuneroma.it , attaching:

  • A photograph of one artwork, accompanied by the name of the artist, by the name of the work, and by specification of the current year;
  • The declaration of permission granted and of acknowledgement of conditions applying (enclosed herewith) filled in in all its parts and undersigned;
  • A photocopy of an ID document of the artist who produced the photograph and who undersigned the aforesaid declaration.

The quality of the photographs must be satisfactory (dimensions: at least 1000 pixels (lengthwise), minimum resolution 300 dpi; not in excess of 10 MB; submitted format: .jpg, .tiff or .png).
Please note that as of this time all photographs submitted shall be placed online and reproduced,  excluding those that, entirely at the discretion of technical and scientific experts’ commission (Comitato tecnico-scientifico), are considered  illegal in any way or such as incite illegal actions; that infringe on the rights of third parties including those of confidentiality; present contents that are violent, vulgar, racist, sexist, or offensive to any sexual, ethnic, political or religious group; that are clearly off topic; that promote products or services or sustain  political organisations; that infringe on copyright or that make unauthorised use of registered trademarks; and that portray minors.

Comitato tecnico-scientifico: Claudio Crescentini, Costantino D’Orazio, Maria Vittoria Marini Clarelli, Federica Pirani and Isabella Toffoletti with the collaboration of Elisabetta Giuliani and Gian Pietro Leonardi.
